Course Syllabus

Oak Grove Middle School - Math 7

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The math textbook that we will be using this year is College Preparatory Mathematics (CPM)  – Core Connections 1.  Your child has access to their online math textbook which they will be using throughout the year to see their homework questions, homework support, and extra practice!  The textbook is also available in Spanish version, simply click the link at the top of the textbook and it will translate.

Below I will explain the CPM resources, and homework policy, to make this year a success.

ABOUT THE CURRICULUM:

  • Publisher resources are available in English and Spanish at http://cpm.org/parent-support/  This site provides suggestions to help your child, parent guides to the lessons, and weekly tips for learning.  There is also a video of a typical classroom for you to see how the class is structured.

    • Just a reminder, your child is using the Core Connections 1 book.

    • Students are assigned an online textbook which they can access on any device - the textbook is also available in Spanish

  • In your students’ ebook, under the Reference Tab is Student Support, it provides Math Notes, Parent Guide per chapter, and eTools.

HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS:

  • It is important that students do their homework each night to the best of their abilities and do not fall behind. Students can expect homework to be assigned almost EVERY night.

  • Students access their homework problems on their online textbook, and they do their work/answers on a separate sheet of paper.  Homework is to be turned in the next day.

  • Homework can be challenging for both the parent and child at home.  So please remind your child of these TWO RESOURCES:

    • Homework Help - link located after each homework question which provides hints and answers.

    • HUB answer key - I provide the answer key for each lesson so students can get help with a difficult problem.  Students/Adults are able to use the answer key as a resource for support, AND they are expected to correct their homework at home!

GRADING:

  • Formative Assessments - (30%)  Classwork, homework and quizzes
  • Summative Assessments - (70%)  Tests
